Guns N' Hoses Fight Night
Guns N' Hoses is a boxing match that puts members of the Jacksonville Sheriff's Office (JSO) and Jacksonville Fire and Rescue Department (JFRD) up against each other for a good cause. Money raised will go to charities like the Police Athletic League (PAL - which is an after school program that focuses on educational, athletic and recreational programs for young people) and the Muscular Dystrophy Association.
There will be about 20 matches fight night, each consisting of three one-minute rounds. Boxers, who must be amateurs and work in law enforcement or firefighting in Northeast Florida, wear full protective gear and train for at least three months, so knockouts are rare. They're also carefully paired up for weight and skill level, so opponents should be fairly evenly matched.
Light The City Motorcycle Ride
Light The City Motorcycle Ride is produced by the Jacksonville Fraternal Order of Police, Lodge 5-30 Foundation and benefits the Jacksonville Fraternal Order of Police Foundation, Northeast Florida Chapter of Concerns of Police Survivors and the Police Athletic League. The Light the City Charity Ride raised more than $50,000 in past years for these organizations.
The ride starts early evening and continues into the night. The ride course will make a wide loop around Jacksonville and traverse most of the major bridges around Jacksonville. The ride is escorted by the Jacksonville Sheriff's Office and is given traffic priority. The streets along the route are often lined with ride fans!
